How to Build a Simple Menu That Works at Events

The Key to a Great Coffee Cart Menu: Keep It Simple
One of the biggest mistakes new coffee cart owners make is trying to serve too many drinks.
A coffee cart is not a café.
When you're working events, weddings, or corporate gatherings, your focus should be speed, consistency, and simplicity.
A smaller menu allows you to:
• Serve drinks faster
• Simplify your workflow
• Reduce the ingredients you need to bring
• Keep service running smoothly
My most successful coffee cart menus focus on espresso-based drinks.
My Standard Event Menu
At most events, my menu includes a small selection of espresso-based drinks:
• Espresso
• Cappuccino
• Latte
• Mocha
• Vanilla Latte
All of these drinks can be served hot or iced, which expands the menu without adding complexity.
This menu covers the majority of customer preferences while keeping drink preparation simple and efficient.
Why I Focus Only on Espresso Drinks
My coffee service is designed specifically around espresso drinks.
That means I do not offer:
• Pour-over coffee
• Manual brewing
• Drip coffee
• Frozen drinks
Adding these options introduces more equipment, more ingredients, and more complexity.
Instead, I focus on doing one thing extremely well: espresso-based drinks.
If an event requires additional options like drip coffee, non coffee refreshments, I often partner with other vendors who specialize in those services.
Milk Options
For most events I bring:
• Whole milk
• One alternative milk
The alternative milk is usually either:
• Oat milk
• Almond milk
Sometimes I offer both depending on the client's preferences.
Keeping milk options limited helps simplify service and reduces waste.
Syrups and Flavors
My most common syrups include:
• Vanilla
• Mocha
• Caramel
In addition to these classics, I also bring a small selection of house-made specialty syrups. My go to custom flavors are:
• Honey Lavender
• Toasted Coconut
• Cardamom Rose
These allow me to create unique drinks while still keeping the base menu simple.
Custom Menus for Events
One of the easiest ways to personalize a coffee cart experience is by customizing the menu design, not the drinks themselves.
For every event I design a custom menu that matches the theme or branding of the event.
For example:
• Weddings may feature drinks named after the bride and groom
• Baby showers may feature drinks named after the child
• Corporate events may include drinks named after the company
Even though the drinks themselves may still be something like a vanilla latte or mocha, the presentation feels personalized for the event.
Custom Drink Requests
Occasionally clients request completely custom drinks.
When this happens, I can create custom menu items, but those usually come with an additional charge because they require extra preparation and ingredients.
A Simple Personalization Strategy
A great strategy for coffee cart events is to keep the core drinks consistent but change how they are presented.
For example:
• Drink: Vanilla Latte
• Event: Baby Shower
• Drink Name: The Oliver (name of baby)
• Drink Description: Fresh Espresso, velvety steamed milk, soft vanilla sweetness
But the menu design and drink names change depending on the event.
This allows you to personalize the experience without complicating your workflow.
Final Thoughts
A successful coffee cart menu focuses on:
• Simplicity
• Speed
• Flexibility
The goal is not to replicate a full café menu, but to serve great drinks efficiently while creating a memorable experience for guests.
